Prepared piano ~ 5 min.
Composed in 2022 for Argentinian pianist Lorena Torales-Lisowsky, the piece explores unconventional modes of sound production on the piano: the strings are stopped with poster putty, plucked with plastic cards, rubbed with pieces of rubber tubes, put into vibration with a hank of bow hair…
These sounds make for a music of concrete poetry. The surface of sound is tactile, at times smooth, rough, harsh, or stridently bright.
