oboe and viola, 6 min.

The central idea of this piece is the exploration of sound as a textural medium through the simultaneous construction and de-construction of rhythmic figures and non-linear variations of the harmonic density.

The harmonic material of the piece is determined by inter-modulation of the spectral components of some oboe multiphonics with a set of four-note chords played by the viola. The resulting spectra are then articulated through rhythmic-melodic constructs, determining varying degrees of density and irregularity, consequently influencing the musical character of phases and whole sections of the piece.
The rhythmic-melodic profile of each section is irregular in both its overall shape and in the duration of single events. Furthermore, phrases of different length are often superposed, blurring the contour of the harmonic progressions. The instruments find themselves intertwined in an irregular, relentless, highly energetic and unstable mechanism.
